Sharp Bend Signs Demolished

Reported via mobile in the Traffic Signs category anonymously at 10:31, Sunday 4 January 2026

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8622979.

Multiple previous RTAs have destroyed the sharp bend chevrons on the Plough Bends. There are now no signs warning of the bends. Given the number of accidents on this stretch it can not have escaped OCC awareness that this is a dangerous section of road and that the signs contribute to safety. Signs need to be replaced urgently and surely a proper fix to the road layout is long overdue.

  • Well… the A420 is currently closed because of a massive accident on this very bend! I’ve reported the lack of signs late last year, it was said to be ‘investigating’ and then my report disappears! I hope no one has lost their life today… it’s on OCC’s head because I have it in email of my report back last year. Along with the potholes on this major route, it is truly despicable. I think government now need to be informed and involved, because OCC are just not up to the job of keeping our roads safe to drive on!

  • Following my own observations and recent report in January of this year 2025 I am reporting the issue again with the missing/damaged or destroyed road signage on the stretch of A420 carriageway between the Chowle Farm Estate and the site at the old Plough Pub/Traffic enforcement camera and towards the junction on Kings Road to Longcot. This has been an ongoing problem over more than a year and the possibility of the lack of adequate safety signage contributing to numerous accidents and road traffic incidents that have occured in this hazardous area and on this bend that OCC/Highways will be only too aware of. This situation is highly dangerous while I note that this is a matter that is not being resolved but shown as 'under investigation' and for a situation that at this time demands a high priority response.

  • There must now be a clear case for contributory negligence on behalf of OCC. I note the piece stating that OCC are receiving large volumes of notifications - why are they surprised! If they keep ignoring (and deleting) the notifications, people have no option other than to repeat themselves. For the sake of those who are injured or whose vehicles are damaged we have a duty to make sure they can sue OCC for reparations by keeping clear records that the carriageway failings have been reported.

  • These are images taken from Google Street View from over 2 years ago. You can see that damage to the signs had already taken place in 2024.

All of the sharp bend warning signs have either been further damaged or fully knocked down since these images were taken.
