Timing of rotating cone dangerous.

Reported via desktop in the Traffic lights category anonymously at 12:03, Tue 16 December 2025

Sent to Bristol City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8554102.

This crossing has a rotating cone, to indicate to pedestrians with dual sensory loss when it is safe to cross. The box in question is as you cross at the top of Dorian Road, the first carriageway as you head North.

The problem comes from traffic travelling Southwards down Filton Road, and then waiting to turn right down Dorian Road. Because these cars are waiting to clear the junction, they often don't move off until after the lights have turned red (to stop oncoming traffic travelling North on Filton Road).

The rotating cone (and indeed the pedestrian crossing lights) indicates a safe crossing as soon as these lights turn red, meaning that someone may think it is safe to cross and move into the road, in front of those said cars which begin clearing the junction after this point.

There needs to be either a separate traffic signal to allow that right turn off of Filton Road, or consideration given to the timing of the rotating cone and pedestrian light signals at that crossing. At present it is not safe, especially for those relying on the signal from the rotating cone.
