  • This is a highway (surface water) drainage manhole adjacent to a road gully on the A44. It is directly in the inner wheel track and, because of the narrow carriageway, is impacted by almost every vehicle. It may not collapse imminently (though there is a danger since the A44 is a significant HGV route) but it is a serious environmental nuisance to residents in the area due to the noise (24/7). It was reconstructed in about 2001/2002

  • Still investigating after 6 weeks....?

  • As a temporary measure, your site team could simply lift the cover and line the frame with an old lorry tube inner tube. It sometimes stops the noise problem. It's what we used to do in the bad old days.

  • Please can the person that keeps puting the road fence parallel to the road just off the pavement please stop. Because of the slim profle, it is not noticable, it is also not designed to be used like this. Understand you are annoyed by the noise, but there is no need to make it dangerous. Thanks, fellow Old Woodstock resident

  • It's not dangerous as long as the reflective cone is also there and if the 20mph limit is observed.

  • It is not needed if the cone is there. When the cone isnt there, it is extremely dangerous as it is hard to see it. Especially for bikers- I can personally attest to that. Please get it off the road, the cone is more than enough.

  • Is there any update on when this "noisy" drain cover will be repaired or replaced? Also, is the current placement of a barrier and cone an official, temporary, matter whilst the repair is pending? My concern is that the barrier and cone are inappropriate for this location, as they force traffic into the centre of the road, increasing the risk of accidents. In addition, judging by the large number of damaged cones and barriers, many road users have already collided with them. Please can this matter be resolved urgently, before an accident is caused on the A44.

  • I understand that with all other weather related priority repairs this is not a priority. Nevertheless the temporary signage does not comply with Chapter 5 of the Traffic Signs Manual. The impact noise in intolerable for neighbours but the signage is unsafe, so a more substantial temporary arrangement is needed pending repair.
