Flags on roundabouts and ringroad

Reported via desktop in the Other Lighting Issue category anonymously at 15:31, Wed 10 December 2025 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8529770.

Please remove the abundance of England and Union flags that litter every lamppost around the Headington roundabout and take measures to charge or penalise the people who are putting them up. They were put up as part of a racist, viral online campaign that started in the summer and is led by the likes of Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, a notorious, violent and racist thug. This context is important, because while neither flag is commonly associated with racist ideologies, they were appropriated for the purposes of the campaign as symbols of an intolerant, mono-cultural and white-supremacist vision of Britain that Yaxley-Lennon and his ilk would like to see. I have to pass through this part of Oxford regularly and find the continued presence of these flags intimidating and upsetting. The flags have been up for months now, they were erected unilaterally by vigilantes, without permission and amount to vandalism. I also consider them hateful and malicious communication due to the sentiment that those who erected them were hoping to convey. As the flags have been up for so long, is the council derelict in its duty to make-good street vandalism and engender a safe and welcoming environment for all residents? As a rate payer I hope not.

I have also seen them appear in the last week around Rose Hill roundabout.
