Manhole cover sunken into road causing excesaive nois3
Reported via mobile in the Manhole category anonymously at 15:55, Thu 27 November 2025
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8473355.
The road has been resurfaced and the manhole is now sunken in the tarmac. When vehicles are driving over it is very noisy and lifting. I am worried that this will cause a breakage and in turn an accident on the brow of the bridge

This has sunken more since reported in November. It is extremely dangerous, in particular for cyclists, and for motorists as it isn’t visible until driving over it. Difficult to avoid unless swerving into on coming vehicles

This has been getting worse for some time now. The edge of the crater is very abrupt and could easily damage a car tyre or cause an accident. I personally almost had a head-on collision when a truck swerved to avoid the hole.

Please can you advise when this will get fixed as it is causing those that live in the surrounding properties sleepless nights with the traffic constantly driving over it. The noise is so loud it can be heard inside the bottom office at Heyford Wharf. I'm surprised there has not been an RTAs as yet due to a damaged wheel or ripped tyre. This is a major danger!

This problem has become more serious. The cover has sunk even further and may well cause an accident.

Almost three months and this has not been addressed. This has been causing noise and damage to cars, as well as causing vehicles to swerve into oncoming traffic. It's worse than it looks in the photos in previous reports.

Still not repaired and no updates forthcoming. Unfortunately not able to upload a video that illustrates the noise from the loose inspection cover and cars swerving onto opposite carriageway, so have uploaded a screenshot, as well as photos showing the depth of the drop.

This sunken manhole cover needs addressing urgently. Drivers have to swerve into oncoming traffic to avoid it. Very dangerous going over the bridge.

The step in the road caused by this sunken manhole cover has worsened, become deep and sharp edged. Motorists risk damaging their car via driving over or via a head-on-collision when taking the necessary evasive action to avoid the hazard the manhole presents. It is a matter of time until the negligence toward this issue causes serios injury.
As well as what is quite obviously an urgent safety risk, there is the secondary effect of the noise this manhole cover generates when driven over.

This was apparently 'actioned to be fixed' on the 2nd of December. It's now mid-March and nothing has been done.
