Dangerously overgrown footpath
Reported in the Pavements/footpaths category anonymously at 09:58, Mon 20 June 2016
Sent to Newport Council 2 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 844121.
This stretch of footpath used to be 60 inches wide it is so overgrown that it is now 16 inches. Over the years when people have complained the brambles have just been trimmed. The whole hedgerow needs cutting back severely and the footpath resurfacing. I reported this last Autumn to a local Councilor who didn't reply so I hope this website can help. The over hanging brambles are very dangerous, where they tear clothes and scratch eyes. In the night time they are lethal because the street lighting is switched off.

The footpath grass and trees have now been trimmed, the surface of the path is left untouched. In about a month it will need doing again, it needs much more than a simple trim. There are still overhanging brambles that have started to grow back. This Website seems to work better than asking your councilor. ( Another job that can be replaced by a computer!)

The problem was reported to one of our councilors last autumn without any action from him at all. When I tried Fix My Street the council did at least do something. The bramble problem has already started to return and could do with some more trimming. All that was done was a quick trim with a tractor and strimmer, the surface of the pavement is still untouched.
