The current pedestrian layout on Mereland Road near the school creates an unsafe environment for children and parents during busy drop-off and pick-up times. The crossing point sits at a wide section of the road with no physical separation between pedestrians and approaching traffic. School buses and other vehicles travel close to the pavement, causing confusion and forcing children to cross in an area with reduced visibility and high traffic flow.

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council and South Oxfordshire District Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8421244.

Crossing located at a wide road section: The existing crossing point is placed where the carriageway is widest, increasing the time children spend exposed to traffic and making it harder for drivers to anticipate pedestrians.

Lack of pedestrian protection: There are no guardrails or barriers to guide children toward a safer, controlled crossing point or to prevent them from stepping directly into the road.

Vehicle movement conflicts: School buses approach from behind the pavement where children stand, creating blind-spots and increasing the risk when buses swing into or out of the school entrance.

High traffic volume at peak hours: The combination of buses, cars, and young pedestrians results in congestion and unpredictable movements, raising the likelihood of near-miss incidents.

Poor separation between footway and roadway: The current layout does not effectively channel pedestrians to a safe, narrow crossing point away from turning vehicles.
