Missing street like creates dangerous conditions for women and children in york place

Reported via desktop in the Other Lighting Issue category anonymously at 18:16, Sunday 9 November 2025

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8395639.

Currently, there is no street lighting to help ensure the safety of residents living at the bottom of York Place. The lack of street lighting has created dangerous conditions for pedestrians, especially for women and children at night (see picture). The closest street light (shown in picture) is located too far away to provide sufficient lighting for all residents. Alarmingly, the area is also a known black spot with constant trespassing, vagrancy, and antisocial behaviour in part due to a lack of Council maintenance of nearby public footpaths and land. Despite the Council being aware of these conditions and having adequate land located beside 8 York Place to install a street light they have failed to do so. As a result of this failure, the Council is knowingly placing residents at considerable risk. At night pedestrians are at risk due to both limited visibility and the potential of being harmed from criminal activity. The Council therefore needs to take immediate action to rectify this failure and to ensure Public safety by installing a new street light on the Council land adjacent to 8 York Place .
