Carriageway dangerously covered by flooding

Reported via mobile in the Flooding on Road category anonymously at 12:29, Friday 7 November 2025

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 1 minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8388919.

Whenever there is rainfall the road is covered by flooding because the drainage gulley does not function effectively. Very dangerous on a 60mph stretch of road.

Council ref: ENQ251063831

Updates

  • State changed to: Investigating

Updated by Oxfordshire County Council at 12:30, Friday 7 November 2025

  • Heavy rain overnight no signs anyone unfamiliar with road likely to hit water at speed at night causing accident. Minimum signs should urgently be placed before flood ... also to avoid flood it is necessary to be on wrong side of road therefore opposite to traffic flow .. it is very dangerous place . I have seen road flood here too many times .. another flood at Cookley Green

  • Monday 10th November update.

This drain has been at the receiving end of many clearances but always a temporary fix as re-silts up again very soon leading to flooding, once again, across road. This has been going on for years, the root cause has never been addressed (that it requires new drainage channel as existing drain cannot cope). With predicted heavier rains this week, this is a major priority for car safety.

  • Came home this way this afternoon and still flooded. There's car debris in the road so damaged has been caused to vehicles. Very dangerous stretch of road especially in the dark as motorists will hit this water at high speed and cause an accident. Gullies need clearing asap because grass and plants have grown here also adding to the blockage of rain water

  • Weds 19th update; still no sign of ANY action on this urgent problem - over : weeks since reported. Flooding again this time due to short snow phase this morning.

  • It’s over 2 weeks since this recurring flood issue,in this location was reported. Since then,no OCC/Highways hazard warning signage.Lots of under carriage vehicular plastic faring still litters the verges of the flood. Every time there is heavy rain, this dip floods due to the drain being both silted up & inadequate to drain the water. Sort it out for gods sake!

  • As of Weds 26th November: The drain isn’t even there to see as totally overgrown with grass. This is the 2nd load of vehicle faring debris following last weekends flooding.

  • Yesterday,OCC man cleared some grass that was covering the drain but the fact that this spot floods habitually, proves infrequent clearing is not good enough and a proper drainage channel needs to be put in place.
