Road lanes and signage required

Reported via desktop in the Road signage category anonymously at 22:04, Thursday 30 October 2025 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Bristol City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8358701.

Travelling along Hotwell Road just by Holy Trinty Church towards the centre before the pedestrian Crossing there are two lanes clearly marked lanes by the traffic. However after the pedestrian crossing there are no clearly marked lanes so traffic wanders between the two lanes, causing a road safety issue.

However a number of road users need to be in the right hand lane to turn right and use the crossing-within-the-grass-verge to get onto the other side of Hotwell Rd for various reasons, but especially local residents (like myself close). However because there are no road markings I’m experiencing a number of road safety issues, here are a couple of examples: - I'm in the right hand lane to turn right to use the crossing-within-the-grass-verge and other cars that are in the left hand lane continuing towards centre, frequently drift over towards the right hand lane, because most road users are not using the crossing within the grass verge are unaware that residents / others like myself are using that turning. Therefore it's quite dangerous. - I've been in the right hand lane (ready to turn right) and traffic behind me wanting to continue into the centre are increasing speed perhaps after stopping at the pedestrian crossing, whereas I'm slowing down to turn right (into the crossing-within-the-grass-verge) and the road user behind is then so close behind me I've had road users behind, having to quickly apply the brakes because they're not realising local residents need to turn right using the crossing-within-the-grass-verge. Therefore the solution to this, to help road safety, is to keep the two lanes after the pedestrian crossing by adding road markings showing 2 lanes and also the left hand lane should have a straight on arrow and the right hand lane with a turn right arrow for road users that need to turn using the crossing-within-the-grass-verge.
