Tree requires pruning to avoid falling in strong winds
Reported via mobile in the Tree Requires Pruning category anonymously at 08:33, Thu 23 October 2025 using FixMyStreet Pro
Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8329029.
I reported the trees on the public pathway that runs through Parkside avenue over a year ago, as they pose a danger to everyone close to this path due to the close proximity to houses. The trees are overgrown, and significantly sway during strong winds. On top of that yet another large tree at the north side of Parkside avenue fell during string winds and luckily avoided houses, however it did block access to the entire road.
Please trim the trees on the pathway in the location I have provided, as I have seen no progress in over a year since my last report. If the trees do get pullednoutnfrpk their roots like others in the area, they will certainly land directly on the houses closest to them. Please take this request seriously. Thank you.

Thank you for the update; however, I must clarify that my complaint does not primarily concern the public footpath. My focus remains on the safety of my neighbors and myself. The tree in question (and others nearby) poses a high risk of collapse during high winds; a danger confirmed by recent storms and visible movement I have personally witnessed. Furthermore, these trees are obstructing our legal right to light. The tree is significantly overgrown and requires professional pruning. Despite raising this nearly two years ago, the situation has worsened; the tree appears increasingly unstable, and the constant dropping of seeds and debris has damaged my new decking and outdoor furniture. I am essentially paying the council to collect its own waste from my property. The trees along this path require a significant reduction in width for three critical reasons: Safety: To mitigate the high risk of trees falling onto the houses on Parkside Avenue. Access to Light: To restore the residents' right to natural light. Property Preservation: To prevent further damage to private property. I observed the recent maintenance, which involved only thirty minutes of trimming small, lower branches. This is an unacceptable conclusion and leaves the matter unresolved. This task requires professionals with harnesses to properly reduce the canopy before the summer months. My legitimate concerns regarding safety and light have been ignored for nearlt two years. Please review this as a matter of urgency. If these essential works are not completed before summer, when the full leaf load makes the tree even more vulnerable to wind I fear the consequences. Thank you for your time and I look forward to your prompt response

Thank you for your comments. All necessary works have been completed, and no further work is required at this time. We will continue to monitor the health of the trees as part of our routine 3-yearly inspection cycle. Please note that as outlined in our Tree Management Strategy (tree-management-strategy-2023-to-2027 (bromley.gov.uk) the Council will not prune trees in relation to the following:
• Branches overhanging properties. Residents have the right to exercise their right under common law to prune back branches to their property boundary, withal arising disposed of by the resident. Pruning should be carried out following discussion with one of the Council’s Tree Officers and completed to the standard set out in BS3998:2010 Tree Work;
• Tree size, where a tree is judged to be overly large.
• Obstruction of view: there are no rights associated with maintaining trees in accordance with maintaining views in British law
• Lack of light: there is no ‘Right to light’ (or shade) in British law.
