Street lights Brightness
Reported via mobile in the Street lighting category anonymously at 00:57, Tue 21 October 2025
Sent to East Lothian Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8319706.
I am writing to raise a concern about the street lights directly opposite my home on the A6093. The lights are excessively bright compared to other residential areas on the same road and cause significant disruption to my home life, my sleep, and the local environment.
The glare from these lights shines directly into my windows at night, making it extremely difficult to sleep. I experience disturbed nights and difficulty falling asleep, which is negatively affecting my overall wellbeing. The intensity of the lights seems unnecessary for this stretch of road, which is primarily residential and does not have high levels of night-time pedestrian traffic.
Additionally, the lights are having a harmful impact on the local environment. The nearby woods are home to bats and other nocturnal wildlife. Excessive lighting disrupts their natural behaviours, feeding patterns, and breeding cycles. The brightness of these lights is intrusive to residents and ecologically damaging.
I kindly request that the council review the lighting opposite my home and consider options such as shielding, dimming, or repositioning the lamps to reduce glare. This would help restore peaceful nights for residents while protecting the local wildlife.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I would greatly appreciate a timely review and response regarding possible adjustments to the street lighting.
