Centre Line Missing

Reported via desktop in the Road Markings category anonymously at 10:52, Wednesday 8 October 2025

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8268246.

Dear Sir, I’m not satisfied with your response to my previous query (Council ref: ENQ251059429) about the ‘Missing Centre Line’ for the following reasons :- 1. The lower section of the Benson Relief Road was completed 6 months ago and is in regular use by residents of the Hope Grange estate. (This area is NOT undergoing works) 2. The UK Government – Traffic Signs Manual, Chapter 5, Para 2.1 (Centre Lines) states “Diagram 1008 (showing details of the centre line) should always be used where the permanent speed limit is 40 mph or less”, so why did you say “Some stretched (sic) of road are also intentionally left without a centre line as indicated by national guidance.” ? Most of the completed section of the Benson Relief Road has a centre line, with just this middle section missing and I assume contractors were employed to paint these lines. So what did the contract state regarding the length of line required and was the contractors work compliant with the contract placed on them ? i.e. Was the contract wording correct, or was the contractor's work non-compliant ?
