Tree too big branches keep falling off
Reported via desktop in the Tree Requires Pruning category by Mark Costen at 18:06, Mon 6 October 2025 using FixMyStreet Pro
Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8260219.
The tree in the photo is in the green between 16 terrace houses. Over the years it has grown too big for the area it is in. In recent years over the winter time with poor weather conditions we get a lot of large branches breaking off, a few weeks ago one came down and took out some telephone lines, and this past weekend the wind brought down yet another branch and it hasnt been that windy yet. My concern is due to the size of the tree and its location close to 8 of the houses (all of them are privately owned except for two) that if a larger branch comes down then it will do serious damage to the property. I believe that the tree needs to be pruned rather heavily to avoid anything happening to damage our properties. Please can you review this request and take action to future proof nothing serious happening in the future.

Thank you for your report. The map marker gives us an approximate location, but including more detail in your description—such as house numbers or lamp column numbers—can greatly assist us. This information helps our officers and contractors quickly and accurately locate Council-owned trees, leading to faster and better service.

Hi there thank you for coming back but this is a joke. this was meant to be completed the week before Christmas so nearly 6 months later this has not been completed, what contractors are you using. This is not acceptable the tree is getting bigger and hence more dangerous. I and my fellow neighbours would appreciate it if this can be sorted within the next 2 weeks

Thank you for your comments and thank you for your patience. The contractor has been unable to access the tree due to residents ignoring no parking signs and will undertake the works as soon as they have a clear run access wise to the tree.

Thank you for your response but i can confirm that there have been no signs put up about parking at all in the cul-de-sac where we live. Also i refer back to your message from 16 March when you confirmed letters would be going out to inform the residents of the day the tree would be cut and i have spoken to my neighbours and no one has received these. It seems that the communication between you and your contractors needs to improve. please can you confirm by letter to all residents when this work will be undertaken and i will ensure i work from home that day so that they have access to the tree

Hi we had letters saying that the work would be carried out today 23 July, all neighbours had moved their cars we even had a contractor doing additional work on a property had moved his van out of the bay it is 1pm and still no one has turned up to undertake the work on the tree, will they be coming today, this is becoming an embarrassing joke on Bromley council, nearly 10 months to chop a tree down........

The team attended site on the 23rd but unfortunately were unable to undertake the works due to nesting birds. The team will return to site once the birds have finished nesting and left the nest. Thank you for your continued patience.

As i am sure you are aware birds stop nesting in late August, so come September they will not be there. Please advise the new date the contractors will be coming to cut down 30% of the tree, there are also two large branches one either side that need removing as these hang dangerously over properties. I look forward to hearing from you with a new date hopefully in September so this saga does not drag into October making it a year old since this was first brought to your attention.

Due to ongoing issues within our supply chain that have affected service delivery, we have taken steps to mitigate any further disruption by transferring this work to an alternative service provider. This change has been implemented to ensure continuity of service, maintain operational standards, and minimise any impact on customers and stakeholders. We are working closely with the alternative provider to ensure the timely completion of all outstanding work.

Hi, it has now been a year since I originally contacted you on behalf of our neighbours concerning the ever growing large tree in our green. We cannot believe that this has not been resolved it cannot take a year to cut down a tree. Your excuse of the contractor being changed is not our issue, I told you previously they where not doing what they said back in April (6 months ago), but you failed to act on this back then!! We would like to know why we pay you council tax? This situation is now unacceptable, some of the neighbours are mentioning speaking to the press local and nationally, as this really is turning into a joke. Winter is on its way and with it high winds surely you can appreciate that you need to resolve this issue before winter sets in, the tree is becoming increasingly bigger and more dangerous, not just to the properties but human life, there are two huge branches that spear off to each side that need to be removed completely, and I hope you can also appreciate that a year ago you were going to reduce the tree in size by 30% this needs to be reviewed (as the tree has grown in the last 12 months) and the tree needs to be trimmed to minimum the height of the houses around it and be monitored and trimmed yearly. I expect to hear from you urgently on this with a confirmed date within the next month of when this will be actioned.
