Flooding at Junction A420 and Besselsleigh Riad
Reported via mobile in the Flooding on Road category anonymously at 10:05, Sun 5 October 2025
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8253693.
Every time there is rainfall flooding occurs at this junction. It has been reported a number of times over the last few years. The road surface is badly eroded due to standing water. This junction is in constant use as it's the turning from the A420 for vehicles heading to Wootton and Abingdon. To avoid the flood and pot holes cars are forced into on coming traffic that is joining the A420 at this point. The issue needs resolving as a matter of urgency before another accident occurs. Approximately 2 months ago there was an accident at this junction.

This “crater” has existed for at least three years and is getting worse all the time. When dry, if you can’t avoid it, you risk damaging tyres, wheels and suspension. When filled with water, traffic turning from the A420, often at high speed, swerve into vehicles queuing from Wootton. When are you planning to fix it? I just can’t believe that you haven’t heard about it before.

I am a resident of Wootton Village and use this junction regularly.

Constant large body of water and pot holes causing traffic to move over into oncoming traffic to avoid the junction. The water is then carried up to the next junction causing a lethal slippery surface.

Flooding at the road junction has now completely closed one carriageway of the Besselsleigh Road. The turn off the A420 needs to be closed as there is no carriageway to turn into. If this is not actioned there is the possibility of a serious accident.

When are you planning to do anything about this? Your reports for several months have been labelled “investigating”. What exactly does this mean? Are you waiting for supplies of snorkels to be delivered or, heaven forbid, a serious accident to stir you into action? Angela Hudson Wootton

Dangerous flooding covering dangerous potholes. Flooding causes cars onto opposite carriageway to avoid it. And exiting A420 into the road you have to stop. It is an accident waiting to happen
