Road closed

Reported via desktop in the Roads/highways category anonymously at 13:04, Wednesday 17 September 2025

Sent to Reading Borough Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8177730.

At 12:45pm today I was proceeding along Albert Road and reached the junction of Richmond Road intending to turn right into Richmond Road only to find the turning was blocked by a line of traffic cones. There was no advance warning of this closure anywhere along Albert Road and since Conisboro Avenue is also closed further up, I had no choice but to do a 3 point turn and go back. This is a dangerous place to do a 3 point turn as it is quite a busy road and at this point there is a junction with the other side of Richmond Road that is opposite the closed road. Given that Conisboro Avenue is currently close and there was no warning of the closure of Richmond Road and as far as I know these roadworks are not authorised to close the Richmond Road, I find this closure to be completely unjustified. These works should never have been authorised until the Conisboro Avenue works are completed.
