Driving wrong way down one way street

Reported via desktop anonymously at 17:36, Thu 11 September 2025 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to West Northamptonshire Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8153628.

Cars, bikes, electric scooters frequently drive the wrong way down Muscott Street which is a one way street. Could something be done to the signage / road markings at the junction with Spencer Bridge Road to make it clearer that it's "No Entry" before an accident occurs caused by a vehicle going in the wrong direction.

  • Important Notice: Use of the "Other" Category

To help us resolve your concerns as quickly and efficiently as possible, please only select the "Other" category if no other relevant category applies to your issue.

Reports submitted under the "Other" category may experience delays in processing, as they require additional review and routing.

Thank you for helping us improve response times by choosing the most appropriate category for your request.

Thank you for your enquiry, concerning a request to improve the ‘No Entry’ signs at the junction with Muscott Street / A4500, Northampton.

Naturally, we can appreciate the worry that deliberate or inexperienced driving can cause to a community. Generally, this road safety concern would be a matter for Northamptonshire Police enforcement as they have powers to take appropriate action against drivers that may be breaking traffic laws. Such requests can be done via the local Safer Communities Team by calling the non-emergency telephone number 101 or by the following link on the Northants Police website; https://www.northants.police.uk/ area/ your-area/

We can advise that the existing layout has illuminated ‘No Entry’ signs and the associated road markings in situ (see image below). With this, we have no plans to carry our further improvements.

In relation to pedestrian vulnerability and poor driving behaviour, it may be that some instances are deemed to be dangerous and if captured on video/camera/dashcam, these can be reported to the Northamptonshire Police as part of their ‘Operation Snap’ campaign. The following link explains how members of the public can report driving offences in the West Northamptonshire area by filling out a form and uploading video evidence they have captured: Northamptonshire Police Secure Form (northants.police.uk)
