The so called “patriots” have painted a St George’s cross on the roundabout between brookside meadows and Woodside way. This is a road that school children walk down every day including many with foreign heritage so it needs removing quickly

Why does it matter if children with 'foreign heritage' see the flag of the country they reside in? Grow up.

Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. As you might imagine, we are faced with many locations across the County where flags have been placed on lighting columns without permission, which is contrary to the Highways Act 1980. We are planning to remove all flags placed on lighting columns and in doing so we have to be mindful of both the risk to the public and the personal safety of operatives removing the flags, who may encounter aggressive actions from individuals who do not want to see them taken down. With this in mind, I cannot offer a firm date by when they will be removed, but the process has started. We have already seen many more flags go up by the next day when we have removed them at one location.
The subject of flags is quite emotive for some people, and we really don’t want to see things escalate. Please be assured that we are trying to work through this as quickly as possible and we may prioritise locations where the nature of the material is more offensive. All we ask is for the public to be patient while we deal with the issue, which has taken up a sizeable amount of Officer and Service Provider time to date.
