Drainage failure causing potholes.

Reported via desktop in the Road Defect category by Philip Moulden at 14:09, Wed 10 September 2025 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8147543.

The potholes from Ref 7682150 will continue to appear until the road defect causing them is resolved. The nearest drains are higher than the section of road (one may also be blocked). Whenever there is rain a large lake forms, bus tires then pull the road apart. The road has been patched many times but the holes reappear after the first heavy rain and grow larger with each downpour. One is now bigger than the white box painted round it for repair. I suspect Ref 7682150 will just parch the tarmac, which make the road safer temporarily but will not resolve the issue. I suspect the easiest solution would be to lower the drain outside 146 a bit and slope the road to allow it to drain but an engineer may have other solutions. Otherwise the holes will just reappear and need repairing again and again.

  • These have grown considerably in the meantime. The largest is now a significant danger and may well cause an accident. When buses and lorries hit, it causes nearby houses to shake.

  • The road has been patched but it is still lower than the nearest drain covers, so large puddles appear whenever it rains. Pedestrians continue to get soaked and the potholes will continually re-appear.
