Road in very poor state of repair - long cracks
Reported via desktop in the Roads and Carriageways category anonymously at 15:35, Tue 2 September 2025 using FixMyStreet Pro
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8109230.
Long stretches of the road, running south out of the village of Denchworth to A417 (Faringdon Road) have long cracks. These have been visible for some time now, but they are now getting dangerously wide, to the point where bicycle tyres could get caught in them. From experience, when this happens, one can quickly lose control of one's bike. When riding solo or in a group, especially when having to move across the road due to detritus on the road or because of cars passing or approaching, there is now a real danger of accidents happening. This road was not resurfaced that long ago, so very disappointing to see that the substructure put down was so sub-standard and has allowed this to happen after a few years.

I have been sent an email requesting photographs of the road. I have none. The area indicated on the map is correct and a visual inspection of this stretch of road by Council representatives will confirm the report uploaded.

Hand included for scale. Subsidence likely caused by the long dry spell. If you don't do something before the frost gets into it, it will get really expensive, I fear.

Another photo of similar cracks about 250m SW on the same road. In that location the outer portion of the roadway has subsided by a few centimetres, so it really could tip an unwary cyclist off.
