The yellow kerb markings near this zebra crossing are very faded and unclear. These markings are in place to prevent loading and unloading near the crossing, as parked vehicles at this location can obstruct visibility and endanger pedestrians, particularly during peak times such as rush hour and the school run. Although a sign was recently installed on the corner of Stephen Street to enforce these restrictions, the markings themselves are barely visible, meaning most vehicles parking on the pavement will not notice the restriction.
This creates a significant safety hazard, as drivers may inadvertently obstruct the zebra crossing. In the event of an accident, the council could be held liable if the faded markings are not promptly reinstated. To ensure safety and compliance, the lines should be repainted as a matter of urgency.
