Book style toad migration plate has been vandalised

Reported via mobile in the Road traffic signs category anonymously at 11:49, Sun 24 August 2025

Sent to Hampshire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8066690.

The flap part of the sign has been removed. This is a problem because during toad migration, when the sign is open, it alerts drivers to the hazard of toads on the road. They can get run over and present a hazardous driving surface. Also, the open sign alerts drivers to the fact that volunteers are likely to be patrolling. When patrollers are out they are out, they stop sometimes to rescue toads but spend the minimum amount of time outside of their cars. Without the sign to see, drivers cannot he made aware of the presence of toads or patrollers and that is a safety risk. I am the manager of the official toad patrol that is part of Froglife's Toads on Roads project, and only open the sign at the start of toad migration and I shut it at the end of migration as I have been advised to do by highways. We need the sign repaired please as the toads will migrate agsin starting next JanFeb when conditions are right. Thankyou

  • Still not fixed. Please arrange repair as soon as possible. We need to use the sign imminently - toads will start migrating very soon. Squashed toads represent a hazard to vehicles as they make the road surface unstable If the sign is open (not possible at the moment as half the sign is missing) then this alerts drivers to toads on the roads and also that patrollers will be between the toad signs (in toad friendly conditions) Thankyou
