Speeding on Byles Street

Reported via mobile in the Roads/highways category anonymously at 06:38, Sat 16 August 2025

Sent to Liverpool City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8032284.

Speeding vehicles

Traffic has become consistently heavy and dangerous on this small residential road, everything from Fire Engines, Articulated Lorries, and Coaches, which is particularly used as a cut through if there are events being held in and around the area such as Princes and Sefton Parks or races and marathons if surrounding roads are being closed. Nearby Padbury Street which runs behind Byles Street has now become one way and closed off so Byles Street is being used again as a shortcut to the local Tesco Superstore, causing heavy traffic. Vehicles travelling from Admiral Street approaching a blind corner onto Byles Street, heading towards the direction of Park Road on a daily basis are careering around the bend and doing between 40 and 50 miles per hour. Before approaching Miles Street, there are no speed limiting humps. After Miles Street, still staying on Byles Street there are some implemented. This causes vehicles to take advantage of there being no traffic calming measures. Cars travelling in the opposite direction to each other on Byles Street are having to slam on brakes narrowly avoiding head on collisions because of the blind corner. Several cars speeding have hit railings on that bend and only recently one private hire vehicle crashed into the property on the corner of Byles Street bringing down their iron gate and railings and actually clipped their front living room wall and then sped off and left the scene. This was a quiet area where still some children reside and are unable to play outside. This has become a major issue and panic and fear have set in amongst residents. Car wing mirrors are being knocked off and children are being kept indoors. This is not acceptable. There are no two way mirrors for oncoming traffic to see, there are no speed limiting humps on the road, the road itself is too narrow and the traffic is constant with revving engines, horns being used and screeching brakes. This is disturbing what was once a quiet peaceful neighbourhood. This road absolutely should be one way like Padbury Street. Vehicles wanting to get to Tesco Superstore on Park Road have other options such as using High Park Street, Park Road which is the major A Road and Miles Street, NOT Byles Street. If this continues, as residents seeing this major issue for the past 5 years at least, something has to be changed before there is a certain fatality.

Updates

  • Problem still persists with speeding traffic along Byles Street. Coming in both directions from Admiral Street and Park Road. There are no speed deterrents by either a 2 way mirror, speed humps, or cctv. It's only a matter of time before there is another collision as there have been 3 so far this year.

  • Byles Street has a road speed sign showing 20mph however,, drivers are continuing to speed along this road in both directions. Liverpool City Council have continued to ignore my pleas since August 2025 and shown a distinct lack of interest in safeguarding residents and members of the public alike, by monitoring the daily situation when there have been three road traffic accidents/collisions in the last 12 months

  • Liverpool City Council clearly have no interest in the concerns of the residents on Byles Street when still, even now, we are having near misses with vehicles. Im astonished there are speed reduction measures in one half of the street, but not the part where we live. Its like we've been forgotten about. Will it take a major crash or fatality before they become interested ?
