Sandpit Lane drainage ditch and Pond
Reported via desktop in the Ditch issue category anonymously at 11:20, Wednesday 13 August 2025
Sent to Buckinghamshire Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8018971.
There is a misunderstanding from the previous report, the issue is not about a blocked drain/gully or flash flooding. The pond which was dug out of the ditch 40 years ago, only has a 6 inch diameter overflow pipe into the ditch beyond which is also blocked, same time period as the pond, so there is nowhere for the water to go except overflow into the road and flood property further down the road. This should be inspected to see the problem at first hand.
Updates
-
We know that an important part of any road network is the drainage system which is designed to carry water away from the road surface. As a general rule ditches along the side of the road are the responsibility of whoever owns the land on which they are situated, they should maintain and keep the ditch capable of carrying water away from the road.
The Highway Officer will carry out an inspection within 10 days and if it is the responsibility of Buckinghamshire Council and work is required, we will raise and order and have the work done.
If the responsibility is with the landowner, we will not use taxpayers money to carry out the work, we will write to the land owner and request they carry out the necessary work on their land.
