Urgent Re-Report – Faulty Drain Cover, Case Ref: 7576376 (Issue Reoccurring)

Reported via desktop in the Flooding/Gully/Drainage category by Angela da Cuna at 13:05, Tue 12 August 2025 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Bristol City Council 36 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 8014501.

I am writing to report that, unfortunately, the faulty drain cover previously reported under reference 7576376 has reappeared on 30th July at the same location.

On this occasion, it is true that the problem was repaired following the last report; however, the fix only lasted a couple of months before the issue returned. This clearly shows that the intervention carried out was not sufficient to address the underlying cause and prevent the problem from coming back.

This morning, I contacted Wessex Water by phone to confirm responsibility. They confirmed that this is a Council drain and therefore not within their remit. They also mentioned that they have attended this location three times in the past and confirmed on each occasion that it is nothing to do with them.

The situation remains as disruptive as before: every time a vehicle passes over the cover, it produces loud, disturbing noise, which continues to impact residents during both day and night. Given that this issue has been ongoing for over two years, with only temporary solutions provided, the continued lack of a lasting repair is unacceptable.

I therefore request that you:

- Re-open and prioritise case 7576376 without delay. - Provide a confirmed repair date. - Implement a permanent solution to stop the issue from returning.

Residents deserve peace, safety, and a basic standard of living, which is currently being denied due to the ongoing disruption caused by this defective drain cover.

I look forward to your prompt response and confirmation that a lasting resolution will be delivered.

Kind regards, Angela

Updates

  • I am supporting the complaint (ref 7576376) as the faulty drain cover reappeared on 30th July. The constant noise makes it impossible for me to rest and seriously affects my mental health and my family’s well-being. It’s ridiculous that we’ve had to deal with this for over two years with only temporary fixes. Urgent, lasting action is needed.

  • This is unfortunately an ongoing issue where the fixes seem to last a matter of weeks. This means we are all working from home in 32 degree flats as we cannot open the windows. Trying to sleep in a 26 degree bedroom as the noise is a disturbance is massively impacting the quality of everyone in the buildings lives.

  • Please note that another neighbour has also reported this issue under reference number 7989120, so there are now two separate reports open for the same problem. Thanks.

  • We are writing on behalf of the residents of Newfoundland Court to raise once again the urgent issue of the defective manhole in our road. Despite multiple reports being submitted by residents over recent months, no meaningful action has been taken to resolve this matter.

This is not a minor inconvenience. The condition of the manhole presents a serious risk to road safety for drivers and pedestrians alike. Vehicles are at risk of damage when passing over it, and the persistent noise and vibrations caused by the defect are negatively affecting the daily lives and wellbeing of residents in the surrounding properties.

We respectfully but firmly request that the council take immediate action to: 1. Undertake a proper and lasting repair, rather than temporary fixes that quickly deteriorate. 2. Ensure the work is completed to a high standard of quality so that the problem does not persist. 3. Provide residents with a clear timeline for when the repair will be carried out.

The ongoing inaction is unacceptable given the number of times this issue has been raised, and we must stress that further delays only increase the safety risks and costs of repair.

We trust the council will treat this matter with the urgency and seriousness it requires, and we look forward to your prompt confirmation of when the works will be scheduled.

    Respectfully, Residents of Newfoundland Court
