Dear Council,

I hope this message hits you very well.

Following my most recently attempted crossing Monks Road in a safe manner and arriving next side of the road alive, I decided to take this matter in my hands and reach you for assistance and be heard.

The current traffic situation at Mo KS Road is imposing an enormous risk for the lives of so many that live here, use the roads or are in a visit. This evening while I attempted to arrive at my car that was parked across the road, I almost have been hit by a car on a incredible speed that for seconds did not took my life, but made me suffering the unfortunate to twisted my foot, and now I am on a hospital plastering my entire left leg due to this accident.

I also notice that there is no ZEBRA CROSSING 🚸 or 🚦 TRAFFIC LIGHT, located near the primary school where so many kids and parents use this stretch of the street and nor there is no ZEBRA CROSSING 🚸 or 🚦 TRAFFIC LIGHT near the Hospital Bethlem, Museum, WHAT TO ME AND THE CITY COUNCIL INADMISSIBLE OR ACCEPTABLE to anyone living, visiting or using the Bromley Borough at this location.

Please, we do require this matter to be addressed urgently as a life of many is in risk. As for my broken foot, you will be hearing from me soon with a lawyers to request my financial compensation, and hopefully this becomes a way for this lack of road awareness to be addressed by your team. I appreciate your time and assistance and am looking forward to hearing from you or your team very soon. Warmest regards Guillermo

  • We are sorry to hear of the injury that you sustained.

Concerning your request for a pedestrian crossing to be installed at this location, whilst Bromley Council understands your concerns regarding pedestrian safety and is committed to promoting highway safety and preventing accidents, there are several factors that are taken into account when assessing whether a Zebra or signal controlled crossing (Pelican, Puffin, Pedex, Toucan) is appropriate, in general, these are: • The number of pedestrians needs to meet a specific criteria level, calculated based on the number of pedestrians crossing versus the traffic volume. • Accident statistics (numbers and type of accidents). • Pedestrian desire lines. • The volume of pedestrians throughout the day • Proximity to junctions’ bends and vehicle cross overs. • Location of trees and street furniture on the footway/grass verges. • Demand for on-street parking. • Location of bus stops.

The road has been added to the traffic engineering team's list for a pedestrian crossing, subject to approval and funding.
