Illegal Black gate

Reported via mobile anonymously at 13:53, Monday 28 July 2025

Sent to Reading Borough Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7943574.

At 234 Northumberland Avenue, there is a designated parking space located directly in front of a black gate. A notice has been placed on the gate stating: “DO NOT PARK IN FRONT OF THE GATE.” This parking space was created by the council and is valid for public use.

The issue is that many people believe the owner of the black gate installed this sign without notifying the council or receiving proper authorization. Despite the legality of the parking space, the owner reportedly attempts to harass drivers who park there, demanding they move their vehicles.

I am respectfully requesting that the council investigate this matter to ensure that regulations regarding the installation of gates and signage in front of designated parking spaces are being properly followed. It appears that the black gate may have been installed without council approval, possibly to avoid paying any associated fees. This situation is causing confusion and unnecessary conflict, and I believe it needs to be addressed.
