Tree's breaking off onto my house and garage

Reported via desktop in the Trees category anonymously at 12:46, Thursday 24 July 2025

Sent to Uttlesford District Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7926697.

I am writing to formally report a recurring and hazardous situation involving overgrown trees located in an unmanaged area behind the rear boundary of my property. This strip of land—commonly referred to as "no man's land"—appears to be unclaimed and has become a source of significant concern.

Description of Incident: Over recent weeks/months, multiple large tree branches have broken off and fallen onto various parts of my property, including:

The roof of my house, causing potential damage and creating a serious risk to structural integrity.

The roof of my garage, which may now require inspection or repairs.

Open yard and play areas where my children frequently play, posing a serious and ongoing risk to their safety.

These falling branches are not due to any trees on my own property but are clearly originating from the unmanaged land beyond my fence. The trees are overgrown, unstable, and appear to be in poor health. The issue worsens during windy or stormy conditions, increasing the likelihood of further breakage and injury.

Safety & Liability Concerns: This situation presents a clear risk to life and property. I am especially concerned for the safety of my children and visitors, as well as the potential for costly property damage. Additionally, the unclear ownership of this land complicates efforts to address the problem directly.

Requested Action: I respectfully request that the appropriate party:

Identifies the responsible authority or landowner for the area behind my boundary.

Inspects the trees in question for safety and health.

Takes prompt action to trim, remove, or maintain hazardous branches and overgrown vegetation to prevent further incidents.

If no responsible party can be identified, I request guidance on how to proceed with addressing this hazard legally and safely.

I have attached photographic evidence of the hazardous tree in question.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. Please contact me at your earliest convenience to discuss this situation further or to arrange an inspection.
