Serious impalement hazard - Risk to the public

Reported via mobile in the Report a tree problem category anonymously at 22:09, Wednesday 23 July 2025 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7924045.

Several trees within the area have been cut back in an unprofessional manner, resulting in thick, sharp branches and exposed stumps at low heights next to the public path. These pose a significant safety risk, particularly to children. Due to their positioning and sharpness, there is a credible risk of impalement or grievous bodily harm in the event of a fall or accidental contact.

I previously raised concerns with the landlord, who rents out the property, regarding the significant safety risks posed by the exposed tree roots, sharp stumps, and unprofessionally cut branches. At the time, I was informed that these hazards would be addressed, with the tree debris removed and the fence replaced. However, more than a year has passed since that assurance was given.

I know it has been over a year because the issue was discussed during the summer holidays, at which point I specifically advised my children—then aged seven and four—not to cycle along that path due to the risk of serious injury. The area continues to present a real danger, particularly for young children, who could easily trip or fall onto the sharp protrusions, potentially resulting in impalement or grievous bodily harm.

In addition to the ongoing safety concerns regarding the hazardous tree stumps and branches, I have serious doubts that this issue will be resolved. The landlord in question has previously demonstrated a lack of due diligence in matters concerning safety and waste disposal.

For instance, there was plasterboard strewn across the driveway of the property for an extended period, and I have reason to believe it was not disposed of correctly. As a resident of the same street, I am also aware tha
