Overgrown hedges blocking visibility
Sent to West Northamptonshire Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7917180.
On the north side of A508 Harborough Road. For approx 200 metres west of Brampton Valley Way crossing. Hedges are overgrown over the footway. Severely restricting visibility from Station Cottages driveway and Brampton Valley Way. This results in 'blind' exit for vehicles leaving the driveway onto 60mph road. Hedges have completely grown over existing 'speed camera' traffic sign, which indicates many years since last attended to. Discussed on site with Highway Inspector, Jules, on 22/07/25. As an update, some limited hedge cutting was undertaken (presumably by land owner) in early August 25. This was limited to a few branches only, that were overhanging into the footway. Some of these branches were left blocking the adjacent watercourse, so residents have taken action to remove these. The main issue of safe visibility has not been addressed. As agreed on site with the Highway Inspector on 22/07/25, this requires the full length of the hedges to be cut back further into the verge, removing the growth that has occurred over the last 5 or more years. As stated previously, the obscured traffic sign gives a good indication of the extent of growth over the years that requires cutting back. Please could you confirm that the full extent of hedge cutting work agreed on site will be instructed/actioned? Has a cyclical cutting regime been established to ensure the hedge growth is managed going forward? Thank you.

Investigation: Completed (Highways to Monitor, Routine Inspection Programme) - Thank you for your enquiry. A qualified Highways Inspector has assessed the location, and we can confirm that in accordance with the WNC Highways Inspection Manual, the vegetation at this location is not currently meet the intervention criteria. We will continue to monitor the vegetation as part of our routine highway inspection schedule. Should you notice this issue worsening, please inform us by raising a new Fixmystreet enquiry.
