FAO Ms. Alice Hill
Dear Ms. Hill,
We live directly opposite the new housing development on Pickering Close, Winchcombe, (our address is 1 Orchard Rd, GL54 5QB). During the two years it has taken for these new houses to be completed, we have seen significant damage to the pavement and kerbs in front of and opposite our property and also to the road surface itself – caused by heavy vehicles accessing the site.
Since completing the new houses at the end of February, the access from Orchard Road to Pickering Close has been left unfinished and in a dangerous state. Orchard Road has a high number of elderly residents, many having mobility issues. We recently observed an elderly lady with a walker trying to negotiate this uneven surface, eventually being forced to cross the road, just as a car turned towards her from the Barnmeadow Rd. junction close by.
It is only a matter of time before an injury or fatality occurs. We attach photographs to show that there are no safety warnings and no barriers warning pedestrians to stay away from this clear hazard. It is completely unacceptable that a public thoroughfare is left in this dangerous condition at all, and additionally reckless that no safety warnings have been set up.
We have been chasing the builders, Remico Properties, on numerous occasions regarding the completion of this work, with no firm date being forthcoming. We now understand that Remico are awaiting “licence” from you before they can proceed, to enable temporary traffic lights while the pavement work is done.
We would now like to hear from you that Remico will be enabled to finish off their work very soon and that in the interim, hazard notices and barriers be installed.
We look forward to hearing your confirmation that this work will now proceed.
Yours sincerely,
David and Barbara Curry
