If driving up Park Lane towards Hightown, and intending to turn right to 106, 108 or the Queen's Head, there is no 'turn right' space marked on the road. However there is one from the other direction to turn right into Ayrshire Way. So anyone wanting to turn right to the pub/houses either has to remain in the left lane or wait in the space reserved for oncoming traffic wanting to turn into Ayrshire Way. There perhaps isn't space on the road for both directions having central turning spaces here, so for safety, the old road should probably be a 'no entry' from Park Lane, with drivers directed through the station car park and under the bridge. However I guess Highways can't do that because it is National Rail or Northern land? I can't recall if this situation was always the case, but it should have been sorted out when planning the new layout, in order to improve the junction. Second, the station access road that was destined for bollards now has the appearance of a driveway, with a dropped kerb onto Park Lane, but no road markings indicating it's a give way/stop junction. Everyone used to taking this route continue to use it. So the safety issue has not been resolved despite lots of new tarmac. The dropped kerb implies permission to cross the pavement, but drivers are unlikely to give way to pavement users. Additionally pavement users will be unaware that they are walking across a de facto junction and will not be particularly cautious at that point. Guide dogs will not recognise this as a junction either due to the removal of the old kerbs.
The recent roadworks were meant to make this area safer for all. The light-controlled crossing is helpful, but the junctions are not.
