Strong sewage smell in street outside my house

Sewage smell persists despite recent council cleaning of open gulley drains at side of road in front of no.4 and no.2 Silver End. I believe gas pipe replacement works may have caused damage to sewage pipes underground - lots of holes and they were very deep. Could a foul water leak be finding its way into the runoff? Gas people tested but no gas leak.

Council say there is no problem but the smell is still strong.
