Uneven road surface

Reported via Android in the Roads and Carriageways category anonymously at 16:16, Thu 10 July 2025

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7858491.

The road surface at the junction of Oxford Way/High Street/Sandy Lane has become dangerously uneven where the housing developer has tried to join the new road to the existing road. Road surface is completely uneven in several areas which makes it dangerous and difficult to steer and drive over. Only happened since the new road was made. Will likely cause flooding to entrance of Brook surgery in heavy rainfall and cause access issues to a key village service.

Council ref: ENQ251053152

  • As part of the works the Developer will be removing the existing carriageway construction and undertaking full depth re-construction of the carriageway along High Street/Oxford Way, between the junctions of Sandy Lane and Marely Lane. We will however raise this concern with the Developer and request that they remediate this area as an interim measure, until the permanent works are carried out in this area.

  • This is still a real danger to motorcyclists (and causing damage to cars wheels and suspensions). The road surface is so uneven with multiple different depths of pot hole and road surfaces making it almost impssible to lean a motorbike over to turn the corner into Sandy Lane safely.

Due to the terrible road condition, vechicles are also trying to drive around the mess meaning they are on the wrong side of the road in the junction.

It is scandalous that the devloper left the road in this condition and only resurfaced to the boundary of their devleopment (with a promise to fix the mess in the future) despite being the ones to rip up the road and cause so much inconvienience to to the residents of the village for so long now.

  • Oxfordshire County Council and Ridgepoint Homes this issue needs rectifying ASAP, otherwise there will be a serious accident or worse. How can the road be left in this state and even be allowed to open in this condition. It was fine before being dug up so why wasn't it put back to the original state? Yet again these developers are getting away with doing half a job.

  • I am glad to see that this is currently under investigation. The contractors left at least 5 weeks ago having completed the Oxford Road in the new estate. Where they failed to complete is on a T junction and at the entrance and exit of the GP Surgery. It is so bad vehicles are inclined to cut their approach to avoid going into the dip in the road.

  • Oxfordshire County Council - can we get this escalated and some pressure actually applied to the developer to fix this?

  • Three months and counting since this was 'investigated', it seems like the council holds no sway what so ever with developers.

The local press has be contacted and will be looking for quotes from OCC in the coming days.
