Deep Void

Reported via desktop in the Potholes category anonymously at 15:17, Thu 10 July 2025

Sent to Reading Borough Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7858081.

As small but deep void has opened up in the gap between two bus shelters in Broad Street, outside LLoyds Bank, on north side of street. in town centre. Size: 12"x12"x12" deep. Rather odd...

Updates

  • Void still there...... A number of these holes have appeared around the town centre of Reading. The underlying rock and soils here are gravel and clay in the river valleys, surrounded by chalks. There is no history of mining or natural subsidence here, so very strange.

  • This problem remains... However, the borough council has embarked on relaying the pavements nearby, which are composed of household bricks laid sideways in a zigzag pattern.
