In any heavy rain the road floids

Whenever we get any heavy rain, or if it rains over a long period, this part of Talke Road always floods. It’s outside the entrance to the Salt Line car park and also the entrance to the Linley pub. The water sometimes stretches across the whole road. This makes it really tricky for pedestrians as the road is very busy, it’s often used as a short cut. It also means that debris can be splashed up onto any parked cars and gardens. This isn’t a new issue. It’s been going on since before Covid. But raising here as it’s probably why the road in this area keeps disintegrating and potholes keep getting reported. It seems the grid to the east may be blocked as water is by passing it. And the camber of the road means that the water doesn’t get to the grid on the north side until it’s all flooded.

Thank you for your enquiry. As we are experiencing severe weather conditions, only emergency cases will be attended where there poses a risk to property, public safety or high-risk highways.
Gullies vary in the speed they can drain water away and some will overflow during heavy rain even if there is no blockage. This does not necessarily mean the gully requires cleaning, and in such cases the water will clear when the rain stops. We will not visit overflowing gullies during heavy rainfall unless the water is causing a risk to life or property.
If you would like to know more about how we manage gullies and drains, you can find information here:
