Bad road surface, patches on patches

Reported via desktop in the Potholes category by Pete MacK at 17:10, Sat 5 July 2025

Sent to West Sussex County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7813839.

I live at the south end of St Augustines Rd, which i use almost daily, the entire road surface needs a proper assessment to resurface, heading north into St Winefride's Rd, accross the roundabout into St. Flora's Rd, before moving into Horsham Rd i have lived here since 1999 so i know full well this road is overdue, i am sure many residents living in these roads do not like the condition, in fact i now have a warning to attend to my suspension, it is like driving across sleeping policemen i was amazed to see Ford Rd getting such a large stretch of road being resurfaced, as well as a major part of the A29 between Watersfield and Pulborough, both stretches of road receiving very different methods of surface, one getting new tarmac and the other getting chippings and tar spray, so i know full well these can be done very quickly over a day or two, so why not our road which is now well overdue and damaging our cars

Updates

  • There has been some new work done to the above road surface, more patches the multiple patches make the surface very bumpy, like driving down a railroad track with no rails, and after a recent MoT now have an advisory to replace suspension rubbers, again at my cost - i curse every time i use this road, because i forget to take a different route when i am going out daily and returning

    I will addsome images shortly

It frustrates me as a road tax payer and with every house owning a vehicle or two in this road SURELY pay enough road tax to get this section properly resurfaced from the kurb to the centre at least

Am i asking a lot YES I AM - stop wasting time with tempory patches and do the proper job first time

I have noted in my area that when the Gas people and contractors were replacing mains, the holes they dug and refilled were of A1 quality and a year on, still are A1

Apart from the colour difference there is practically no join, no bump and no difference in surface height, we want the best, perhaps West Sussex should employ the Gas contractors to repair the roads because you are obviously not the right caliber

There are meant to be some more Gas mains being upgraded very shortly, i will be disgussing things with them in due course and i will be speaking with my local Councillors on this matter
