Dangerous road layout

The Sutton Road flyover/Leads Road junction is fundamentally wrong, dangerous and an accident waiting to happen.

This morning I witnessed 6 cars attempting to go straight ahead, all swerving from the right to the left hand lane as the right hand lane was blocked by 2 vehicles attempting to turn right onto Leads Road.

Current Junction layout  Right hand lane – turn right/ straight ahead  Left hand lane – turn left only

As an example, I have attached an image from Google Maps, if the HGV in the right hand lane was turning right, how would vehicles behind it be able to drive ahead? They cant so swerve into the left hand lane, this is particularly dangerous during the rush hour.

This could easily be resolved by making the right hand lane for turning right only and the left hand lane for left/straight ahead.

  • I don't really stick up for the council but on this occasion. I was the other way round and people complained so they changed it to this. Looks like they can't win on this.
