I am writing to express serious concerns regarding the location of the bus stop and shelter situated directly in front of Walter’s Bistro at 189 Castelnau SW13 9ER. Its current placement is creating a number of significant issues that are negatively affecting both pedestrian safety and the daily operation of the adjacent business.
The pavement in this area is particularly narrow and becomes heavily congested, especially during peak hours. The combination of people waiting for the bus, waste left on the street by residents, and the Bistro’s outdoor seating creates a bottleneck that makes it difficult for pedestrians to pass safely. This has led to frequent incidents of people tripping or stepping onto the road, which poses a serious safety risk.
Additionally, bus passengers regularly use the Bistro’s outdoor chairs and tables while waiting, mistaking them for public seating. This not only disrupts paying customers but has also led to tensions and repeated complaints from the business owner. The shelter also completely obscures the visibility of the Bistro from the street, significantly impacting footfall and damaging the business's commercial viability. Moreover, the structure itself adds to the visual clutter of the street, creating an eyesore that detracts from the overall appearance of the area.
Given these ongoing problems, I believe it is appropriate and necessary to relocate or remove the bus shelter to a more suitable position—one that maintains public transport access without compromising safety or local business operations.
