Extreme danger to pedestrians

Reported via desktop in the Footways and Pavement damage category anonymously at 16:18, Monday 23 June 2025

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7751324.

Unmaintained vegetation is obstructing the footway, affecting much of A329 between Moulsford and Cholsey, and particularly south of Halfpenny Lane junction.

Pedestrians and runners have no choice, in places, other than to step into traffic lanes, with the extreme danger of conflict with motorised traffic and fast moving cyclists, who my not anticipate the pedestrian’s actions.

Council ref: ENQ251051593

Updates

  • Thank you for your enquiry. This issue has been passed onto the relevant team for investigation.

    State changed to: Investigating

  • Updating with a photo, to illustrate quite how absurd this situation has become. There is now a formal complaint pending with Oxfordshire County Council regarding failure to discharge statutory responsibility for public safety on this stretch of highway. It would be constructive if the relevant team would contact the complaint handling team and draw attention to the update, with reference 6557-9481-2358-6953.

  • Thank you for your report. We have concluded our assessment and closed this report. We have requested a land registry for all the landowners on the footway side of reading road & letters will be sent requesting the vegetation is cut back from the footways edge. We will also raise works to clear any vegetation from the verges up to the boundary features. We appreciate your vigilance and encourage you to report any future highway concerns.
