Poles on Cycle Path in Road.

Reported via desktop in the General road markings, lines and stud issues category anonymously at 09:53, Monday 23 June 2025 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Gloucestershire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7748457.

I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction regarding the recent installation of bollards on the cycle path along Cheltenham Road, particularly in front of the dental practice at 22 Cheltenham Road.

The placement of these bollards has created a hazardous situation for both drivers and cyclists. Patients and staff at the practice, as well as visitors to neighbouring properties, are struggling to safely enter and exit driveways. The bollards obstruct views and force vehicles into the middle of the road, posing a significant risk of collision with oncoming traffic.

It is worth noting that the council previously installed traffic lights for Gloucester University opposite and widened the road to two lanes in front of us to improve traffic flow. Now, that progress has been undone with the removal of a lane to make room for a cycle path that is rarely used. Furthermore, there are cycle paths on both sides of the road, which seems excessive given the lack of use. A single cycle path on one side of the road would be sufficient. The reduction in lane width is causing significant issues for emergency vehicles and buses, which now struggle to pass each other. This design choice is not only impractical but also potentially life-threatening in emergency situations. The ongoing roadworks on Cheltenham Road over the past seven years have already caused substantial disruption to local businesses and residents. This latest change exacerbates these issues and jeopardizes public safety.

I strongly urge the council to remove the bollards on the cycle path on Cheltenham Road down to Escort Road as a matter of urgency. This would alleviate the current safety risks and logistical difficulties for all affected parties.
