Safe refuge
Reported via mobile in the Verges category by Mike Grant at 10:10, Thu 19 June 2025
Sent to Hampshire County Council 1 minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7732654.
I reported this problem on Fri 18 January 2013 FixMyStreet ref: 308813. – Large Puddle in Road. Three Words Location ref:- ///eyelid.disbanded.tonality 50°52'14.3292"N, 1°34'45.6168"W
The area I referred to as the “muddy verge” in my 2013 report has now become completely overgrown with brambles (see attached photo). A pedestrian going to Sandy Lane has to cross the road at point ‘A’, where there is a good line of sight down Shrubbs Hill Road for oncoming traffic. The pedestrian is now forced to walk on the carriageway, their backs to the oncoming traffic with no safe refuge area.
Could you please arrange for the overgrown vegetation to be cut back, exposing the grassy verge once again? This would at least provide a safe space for pedestrians to step aside when vehicles approach. Historically, the council used to maintain this verge.
The large puddle I mentioned in my previous report still forms during rain, but after 12 years I’m inclined to let that one go. This current issue presents a much more immediate and serious safety risk for pedestrians.
