House shaking

Reported via desktop in the Roads and Carriageways category by Mat Clark at 16:26, Wed 18 June 2025

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 1 minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7729532.

Hello. We have twice reported this issue previously. Thames water came and replaced a man hole but we had some advice from a highways expert who has suggested that the join in the road (which is now cracked) is causing the road surface to deflect when busses and lorrys go over it. This is causing our house to shake violently and causing cracks in our brick work and plaster and waking us up at night.

I would suggest a full inspection of the road surface is carried out using seismic equipment as the problem is still persisting and we dont seem to be getting a resolution.

We are worried about the integrity of our home!

  • Thank you for your enquiry. This issue has been passed onto the relevant team for investigation.

    State changed to: Investigating

  • I wanted to provide an update regarding the recent investigation at this location. After a thorough review, no safety defects have been identified. I understand there have been concerns raised about vibrations from the highway, so I’d like to offer some clarity on this matter.

For more detailed information on the effects of vibrations, please consult the council’s website or explore the reports published by the Transport Research Laboratory. Their research shows that properties must be situated within one meter of the highway to be significantly impacted by vibrations from traffic. This finding should offer some reassurance about the current situation.

    State changed to: Investigation complete
