Flooding at busy pedestrian crossing, Byres Rd, opp Tennents Bar
Reported via desktop in the Roads/highways category anonymously at 08:52, Tue 17 June 2025
Sent to Glasgow City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7720946.
This is a blocked street drain at a pedestrian crossing (no zebra) that constantly floods this busy street corner in heavy rainfall. Two photos attached, days apart, but has been ongoing for years. **Needs urgent attention before the 2nd phase of Byres Rd improvement are to start in August 2025** Flooding puts this busy pedestrian crossing out of normal use and compels pedestrians (who understandably don't want to walk through floodwater) to cross the road by weaving through traffic that is sat at the traffic lights, with engines running. Cars entering University Avenue (from Byres Rd left turn, or across from Highburgh Rd) cannot avoid driving through the flood water and can soak pedestrians standing on the pavement.

21 July 2025: We are one month-on and this flooding continues. It has not been fixed. New signs in the street tell us that roadworks for Byres Rd (the second half of its upgrade) commence on the 04th August 2025. The 64,000 dollar question is: Will Glasgow City Council fix this blocked drains , causing the flooding, on the corner here, (it should be the first thing they do!) or will this council just bound on with "upgrading" Byres Rd and ignore the blocked drains completely. It would be so grossly irresponsible and a grave waste of public money to ignore it (& then brag about how great Byres Rd looks after the upgrade).
