Failure to cut amenity grass.

Reported via desktop in the Grass category anonymously at 13:41, Mon 16 June 2025 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7717258.

Would like a proper explanation as to why grass cutting has stopped in Wantage without your usual bull. Verges, junctions, blind spots...nothing is getting cut. The place is a total mess. 3ft high grass everywhere. The town looks third world. Its a disgrace.

Council ref: ENQ251050863

  • Update on grass cutting along Denworth Road, Wantage. The grass is so long now at the top of Barwell it's almost ready for hay making.

  • Grass not cut along Denchworth Road...the place looks an absolute disgusting mess. 3ft high grass obscures traffic when exiting St Marys Way...dangerous. Massive pot holes on both sides of road exactly on zebra crossing...very very dangerous. Earthline HGV lorries hammering over them all day long...zebra crossing is a trip hazard, nobody stops for the kids...there is going to be a death along that stretch at some point soon...the council should be making this high risk area as safe as possible. Its being neglected.

  • Thank you for your enquiry. Oxfordshire County Council, as the Highway Authority, is ultimately responsible for the maintenance of grass verges alongside the carriageway network throughout Oxfordshire (excluding motorways and trunk roads). Under our new approach, all roadside verges in both rural and urban areas are cut once a year. If necessary, we will trim areas that impede driver visibility more regularly. For more details, you can refer to our Highway Verge and Vegetation Management policy at https://www.oxfordshire.gov.uk/ sites/ default/ files/ file/ roads-and-transport-major-projects/ grasscuttingpolicy.pdf
