Grass, plants and branches blocking driving view

Reported via mobile in the Grass needs cutting category anonymously at 13:40, Saturday 7 June 2025 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7674855.

As you look right onto Baston Road the vegetation is blocking the view of traffic. It is the same problem on the other side of the road/footpath/driveway, which has already been reported 18th. As of 4th June grass till not cut. I’m highlighting the other side of the grass space, the road as used as a footpath/driveway for Dreadnought Cottage, also has vegetation that obscures traffic. I will escalate to dangerous soon if necessary. It is already quite dangerous.

  • Isn’t the part that you have taken a photo of, a part of the land owned by the cottage? If so, it’s down to them to keep on top of it.

It’s a pain that it’s like it is but it’s nowhere near dangerous. That’s OTT

  • To clarify, although I’m sure the council know, the woods belong to the council. The entrance and continuing path is used as a bridle way, for walkers and dog walkers - the public. Only vehicles authorised by the council use the driveway and can understand the visibility. It is the same for the users of the public Redgate Drive where an issue of the nearby grass has already been reported. The grass also causes a problem to this entrance/bridkeway. To be more cost effective it would be good to cut both areas which are next to each other at the same time,

  • Redgate Drive is said to be a private road. But the residents of cottage always used to maintain the upkeep of the bushes and vegetation around the entry/exit point of their driveway. Don’t know why they have stopped.

  • “Is said to be” is different to what is actually true. I can ask the council to clarify Redgate parking? Once again - the woods belong to the council. It is a public space that the council agree can be used as a driveway by dreadnought cottage. But the owners of dreadnought are not owners of the land and wood that encompass the whole area of which the driveway/path/bridle way sits. The council understand this. I’m sure they would still want this land to be for public use and have responsibility for it’s maintenance. I’m sure the public also enjoy having the right of way over it. In fact the council removed a gate at the path/bridle way/driveway entrance. They could not have done so if it was on private land. The previous owners to the current ones installed it to prevent fly tipping at a cost to the council and therefore the public. Fly tipping has become a problem again. Although the council are very prompt to remove rubbish. Someone complained about the gate without discussing it with the previous owners who installed it, )not the current owners), but to the council so I guess they knew the council own it. They said the gate had been locked. It hadn’t. And it did not prevent walking or riding access. So the complaint seems invalid. So you understand / it’s all council land and they have an agreement together with Dreadnought that they and their visitors can use the pathway to drive on. It is not a case of Dreadnought own it and they let the public use it.

  • Completely get that but as I say, the owners of the cottage used to maintain the “driveway” and the surrounding areas. In fairness it wouldn’t take 5 mins to cut it back. But unfortunately Bromley Council seem to have less staff able to maintain the borough now. I’m puzzled as to where all the staff have gone?!
