Dangerous opening in hedge onto Shire Lane
Reported via mobile in the Tree Requires Pruning category anonymously at 10:44, Tuesday 3 June 2025 using FixMyStreet Pro
Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7655171.
Due to the end of the footpath on Farnborough Hill being fenced to prevent bicycles, mobility scooters and wheelchairs accessing it, the next "opening" to get on the footpath is through a break in the hedge made by others some time ago. However, this is over grown and people on the footpath cannot see traffic safely to cross without coming onto the road and cars cannot see the opening/crossing until on top of it. Recently there was an accident between a car and bike here for this reason. There have also been a few other accidents in the same spot. Can the council either cut the hedge back and make this a safe, visible crossing for the road and footpath users or block this opening off and open up the end on Farmborough Hill which goes onto a pavement so that all can have access to its use.

Thank you for your enquiry. This hedge on Shire Lane is adjacent to land that is owned by the Council but is leased to a tenant farmer, who is responsible for the maintenance and gapping of any hedges. The Council's Estates team are liaising with the farmer to request that a hedge be restored and a fence installed. The Estates team do not work off the Fix My Street system, so this report will be closed, but it will remain on their internal systems to be monitored through to a successful conclusion.

A further update that to note that the Farm Manager has agreed to infill the gap in the hedgerow and will use it to prevent further access.
