Series of elongated potholes on downhill section of carriageway

Reported via mobile in the Potholes / Highway Condition category anonymously at 12:19, Mon 2 June 2025

Sent to West Northamptonshire Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7650220.

I was not personally injured but a cyclist in the group crashed after hitting the potholes. They required ambulance attendance and spent approx nine days in Milton Keynes hospital with fractures to both arms plus neck and shoulder injuries. Date of accident 29 April 2025. I do not know how long potholes have existed.

  • I am the injured cyclist who crashed after hitting the potholes. The first photo shows me on the grass verge being shielded from the sun by a fellow cyclist whilst we waited 3 hours for an ambulance. The second photo shows me putting a brave face on things, after I was transferred to a ward from A & E. I am now recovered enough to type this and to submit a claim for personal injury in the next day or two.

  • Last Friday, 6th June, my husband drove me out to the Hartwell Road, and I was able to find the potholes that caused my accident, which were in fact approximately 100 m north of Stonepit farm. So I now realise that the location symbol on the OS map originally sent to you on Mon 2nd June by my cycling colleague, was not at the exact location. I have put a cross on a copy of the map (see above) and included a couple more photos that show the potholes more clearly. I hope that these are in fact the potholes that you repaired earlier this week.

  • The council reacted very quickly to verify the problem existed and to undertake the repair in a timely manner. This may have been due to the injuries my friend sustained which she evidenced directly with the council. I found the whole reporting process very easy and would use it again.
