Incompetent and illegal Tree pruning

Reported via iOS in the Tree Vandalised category anonymously at 18:03, Friday 30 May 2025

Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7640226.

Why are council pruning trees in Wiverton Road? Did they check for birds nesting? The pruning has been done with no consideration to appearance of tree. This must stop immediately!

  • Thank you for the enquiry, the trees mentioned have been pruned due to insurance claims for subsidence, the trees are inspected for birds nest before any works take place. The pruning is a statuary requirement to mitigate the impact of the tree on houses.

  • Im sorry but this explanation does not make sense. Subsidence can be caused by trees taking water from the ground which trees do through their roots, not their branches. Trees should not be pruned March to august. They ar a great asset to our street and have now been unnecessarily damaged presumably at our expense.

  • Reports have shown that pruning does not mitigate subsidence

  • Thank you for the comment, the council does not stop work to trees for 6 months of the year. Reducing the crown of the tree, reduces the spread of the roots, this is why pruning is completed.

  • This tree has been inspected and is not considered to require remedial works at this time. Bromley will only undertake works to a tree for an identified health & safety or highway obstruction issue. The situation will be reviewed cyclically and any required action will be addressed within a future works programme.

State changed to: No further action
