Inspection chamber broken and open on slip road of Bakers Way (odd numbers)

Reported in the Roads/highways category anonymously at 05:07, Mon 8 February 2016

Sent to Leicester City Council 2 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 762853.

My concern is of an inspection chamber cover that keeps coming off as it is not securely fitted and the chamber itself is exposed and extremely dangerous.

My street is located just off of Bakers Way as you may know. The road surface of the slip road where the majority of the odd numbers are is terrible. Numerous times have I and other residents have driven over the inspection chamber and the cover has come off leaving the cover on the road and the chamber completely open. The cover itself is supposed to be bolted into place, but is not and is also broken. The tarmac also needs replacing as there is quite is also in a poor state. This is extremely dangerous as a car will eventually get stuck are worse a child could fall down it and who knows how serious that would be. It is also very noisy when a resident comes or goes as we have to continually drive over the same inspection chamber loosening it further and causing further damage to the cover and chamber. It's is inevitable that the above will happen and I am certain you do not wish this to either.

In conclusion the severity of what could happen could be catastrophic resulting in serious injury if not death.

This needs to be rectified immediately before something does happen.

  • So update... Council came to inspect. Refused to fix it as it is a slip road and they said that the residents will have to pay for it to be fixed. Since then I have contacted Severn Trent who have even amazing. They have been and inspected and the same day pushed a note through my door saying 'inspected the inspection chamber, will be replaced' then followed it up with a phone call to say they have a date and it will be done on Thursday 10th March. They have also already replaced the broken tarmac around it as well! Severn Trent well done!!
